Despite the efforts made to eradicate them, these forms of discrimination continue to exist, and affect individuals in a lot of ways. One of the most fundamental insights from social psychology is that stereotypes and biases operate unconsciously. Even those who consciously reject racist or sexist attitudes can still hold implicit biases that influence their behavior. These biases can be shaped by a variety of factors, such as personal experiences, media representations, and cultural norms. To address implicit biases, social psychologists recommend increasing awareness through education and training. For example, implicit bias training programs have been implemented in many workplaces, schools, and law enforcement agencies to help reduce the negative impact of implicit biases.
